Call for Artists – Paid Artwork Opportunity

Choggiung Limited Land Department
Choggiung Limited is seeking original artwork from local and Alaska Native artists for use in educational signage along Snake Lake Road (Nunavauglauk Lake area). The selected artist will be awarded $1,000 for their work and their art will be featured as visual elements supporting land stewardship, cultural awareness, and responsible outdoor practices.

Background

Choggiung, Limited owns and manages approximately 299,500 acres of surface estate lands in the Nushagak and Wood River Drainages. Our aim is to manage our lands for our shareholders with generational vision. While we are here, we’d like to offer opportunities for people to use our land responsibly so that it is healthy and well for use for future generations. In an effort to balance these priorities, we are launching an initiative to improve land ownership signs, encourage safe, sustainable, and responsible use of our lands. The signs will include location information, trails, history, culture, land use purposes and requirements for people to ask permission to access and use the land. The signs will communicate the need to contact our land management team for permits to access the land and to share information that can be followed up on or simply logged for our historical records. The signage is intended to be welcoming, deliver serious and critical information to land users, and provide opportunities for appropriate land uses. We’d love for the artwork depicted on the signs to inspire responsible, culturally relevant, respectful and environmentally sound practices.
